Severe Storms and Flooding Threat in the Central Plains; Heat Continues in the South and West

Severe thunderstorms may produce damaging winds, large hail, and numerous instances of flash/urban flooding over parts of the central Plains and lower Missouri Valley. Hazardous heat will continue in the South, Desert Southwest and the California Central Valley this weekend. Subject: Change to River Forecast Service Locations along the Calcasieu 
River in Allen Parish.

Effective at 1200 Coordinated Universal Time on Wednesday November
17th 2021, the National Weather Service will increase the flood
stages to match the new USGS datum at the Oakdale river forecast
point (OKDL1). With the new real-time gaging information from the
USGS, the flood categories and impacts will need to be raised 5
feet from current levels. Forecasts & information will be available
on the internet at https://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?wfo=lch&gage=okdl1
and through all standard NWS dissemination methods.

The following flood stages will have to be changed to reflect the
new gage zero datum at Oakdale.

Action Stage            From 10 ft to 15 ft
Minor flood stage       From 12 ft to 17 ft
Moderate flood stage    From 16 ft to 21 ft
Major flood stage       From 22 ft to 27 ft

These new flood stages and categories will be referenced in flood
warnings, flood statements, and flood advisories for this
location.
