Heavy Rain From the Central Plains to the Mid-Atlantic; Heat Wave Begins This Weekend

Strong to severe thunderstorms and heavy rain will impact portions of the central Plains into the Upper Midwest and the Mid-Atlantic through the weekend. A stretch of unusually hot and humid weather is expected across portions of the central U.S. and the Southeast beginning this weekend and continuing through next week. Unfortunately we are no longer able to generate the temperature and precipitation maps with the method we have been using for the past several years. We are working on finding another way to produce these maps each day.

In the meantime, check the "News Headlines" section at the top of our main web page on days that a precipitation map is generated (using a method we're currently experimenting with). We usually post the maps sometime between 11am and noon Eastern Time when precipitation has occurred over approximately the previous 24 hours.
