Day1...

1993: Severe storms in the CWA produced hail measuring up to 1.75 inches in St. Francois county. In Iron county, even larger hail measuring up to 2 inches in diameter caused damage to cars and roofs.

Day2...

1953: The highest temperature on record at St. Louis for the month of October (94 degrees) was recorded.

1991: Severe thunderstorms produced hail measuring up to 1.75 inches in Pike and Marion counties in Missouri.

2007: Low-topped supercells generated 8 tornadoes and straight line winds from central-northeast Missouri to west-central Illinois. The strongest was an EF-2 tornado in Monroe County, Missouri. There was someone injured from this tornado. More information can be found in our events archives.

1973: In Montgomery county, hail measuring up to 2.75 inches in diameter was produced by a severe thunderstorm.

1986: A severe thunderstorm produced a tornado causing F2 damage in Cole county. The total damage was estimated at 2.5 million dollars.

1928: A tornado causing F2 damage moved NE, passing 2 miles NW of Carlinville in Macoupin county (IL). A man was injured when a tree branch was thrown into his living room. Small barns were destroyed. A large barn was shifted, twisted, and torn apart.

1955: Severe thunderstorms in Illinois produced tornadoes cause F1 damage in St. Clair, Madison, and Washington counties. Hail measuring up to 2.75 inches in diameter was also produced in Pike county.

1939: The highest temperatures on record at Columbia and Quincy (both 96 degrees) for the month of October were recorded.

2000: The third earliest frost on record for St. Louis occurred.

1969: Severe thunderstorms produced A tornado causing F2 damage in Lincoln and Calhoun counties. In Pike county in Illinois, golf ball sized hail was reported.

1978: Severe thunderstorms produce large hail in portions of the CWA. In Washington county (MO), hail measured up to an inch in diameter. The largest hail fell in St. Clair county and measured up to 1.75 inches in diameter.

1982: It was a great day for game 2 of the World Series. With a high of 60 degrees and partly cloudy skies, the Cardinals won the game 5 to 4 over the Milwaukee Brewers. That year, the Cards went on to win the World Series.

1966: Severe thunderstorms produced a tornado causing F3 damage in St. Clair county. The total damage cost was estimated at about 2.5 million dollars.

1984: Severe thunderstorms produced hail measuring up to 1.75 inches in diameter in Boone county. Along with large hail, a couple tornadoes causing F1 damage were also reported.

1988: A severe thunderstorm produced damaging winds of up to 77mph (67kts) in Moniteau county.

Day18...

2004: Severe thunderstorms in the area produced large hail in multiple counties. Though most of the hail measured up to only an inch in diameter, the largest hail stones measured up to about 2 inches in Iron County. 9 tornadoes were also reported in Washington, Iron, and Madison Counties in Missouri. 2007: A severe squall line generated 4 tornadoes across Monroe and Callaway Counties in Missouri. The strongest was an EF-2 just northwest of Paris, Mo. Unfortunately there were two fatalities. More information can be found in our events archives.

1987: It was a rather chilly day for game 4 of the World Series in St. Louis. On a day with a mean temperature of only 41 degrees (the lowest of the month for that year), the Cardinals won 7 to 2 over the Minnesota Twins.

1979: Severe thunderstorms in the area produced wind of up to 57mph (50kts) in Knox county. That same day a tornado causing F1 damage was reported in Clinton county.

1991: Severe thunderstorms produced large hail measuring up to 1.75 inches in diameter in St. Clair and St. Louis counties. In Montgomery county (MO), the hail measured up to 2 inches in diameter.

1947: 3.98 inches of rain fell in St. Louis. This is the highest 24 hour precipitation total for the month of October in St. Louis.

1967: Severe thunderstorms produced significant tornadoes (causing F2 and F3 damage) in Moniteau and St. Louis counties. High winds of up to 86mph (75kts) were also a product of the storms in some areas.

2001: A line of severe storms moved its way through the area. There were 55 reports of damaging winds and large hail as well as a weak tornado that was produced in Percy, IL. More information can be found in our events archives.
