...FINAL UPDATE...

From October 3-9,2020, staff from NOAAs National Weather
Service (NWS) Radar Operations Center (ROC) repaired the failed
KLWX WSR-88D bull-gear. The 24-hour check-out period was completed
this morning, and the system is working per specifications.
Therefore, the KLWX WSR-88D returned to full service this morning.

The extended outage started on September 20, 2020, and lasted 19
days until KLWX was put back into service yesterday morning.

On behalf of the NWS Eastern Region and the KLWX User Community,
I want to thank the ROC staff technicians who traveled to
Virginia during the pandemic to repair KLWX, as well as the ROC
staff in Norman, Oklahoma, who provided support and logistics to
the onsite technicians.
