Severe thunderstorms capable of very large hail, damaging wind gusts, and a few tornadoes will continue through tonight across parts of the central and southern Plains. KLWX WSR-88D radar is fully back in service as of 10 AM EDT Saturday October 10. October 10, 2020, 10:05 A.M ...FINAL UPDATE... From October 3-9,2020, staff from NOAAs National Weather Service (NWS) Radar Operations Center (ROC) repaired the failed KLWX WSR-88D bull-gear. The 24-hour check-out period was completed this morning, and the system is working per specifications. Therefore, the KLWX WSR-88D returned to full service this morning. The extended outage started on September 20, 2020, and lasted 19 days until KLWX was put back into service yesterday morning. On behalf of the NWS Eastern Region and the KLWX User Community, I want to thank the ROC staff technicians who traveled to Virginia during the pandemic to repair KLWX, as well as the ROC staff in Norman, Oklahoma, who provided support and logistics to the onsite technicians.
