Event Overview
A cold front swept through southern Wisconsin during the overnight hours Sunday, June 26. This brought some much-needed rainfall for many locations across the forecast area. Many of the rainfall amounts we received were 1 to 2 inches, with some locations seeing over 3 inches of rainfall. Some sub-severe thunderstorms did develop in the very early morning hours. In Watertown, wind gusts estimated to 40 MPH and several 6-8" diameter tree branches fell, along with nickel size hail (0.88" in diameter). This all occurred at around 12:30 AM CDT Sunday morning.
The primary band of rain moved into the Milwaukee/Sullivan forecast area near 2 AM CDT, and moved eastward, eventually moving out over Lake Michigan by around 9 AM CDT.
Radar:
Below are a radar loop of the entire event from Saturday evening into Sunday morning. Also, an image of radar estimated rainfall amounts and their corresponding measured values. Generally, locations in the blue and pink areas in the radar estimate received between 2.5 and 4 inches of rain. Locations in the green areas generally received between 1 to 2 inches.
The last two images show the statewide and Milwaukee/Sullivan forecast area rainfall amounts. These are derived from a combination of radar and rain gauge reports.
