A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for all of southern Wisconsin through 1 am.

A cold front dropping south across Wisconsin will bring a few thunderstorms to southern Wisconsin this evening. The timing for the thunderstorms to affect southern Wisconsin is between 9 pm and 1 am.  Hence the storms may interfere with your outside activities, however the storms are expected to be fairly brief (an hour or less).

Here is when we estimate thunderstorms will impact your location.

Enough atmospheric instability and wind shear is expected ahead of the cold front to support the potential of isolated severe thunderstorms, producing large hail and/or damaging winds. All of southern Wisconsin is in a Slight Risk for severe thunderstorms this evening.  The best chance for strong to severe storms will be north of Milwaukee and Madison, with an overall weakening trend expected as they push south toward the WI/IL state line:

There is concern about how any rainfall will impact the rivers across far southeast Wisconsin.  Given the expected fast speed of the storms and their scattered coverage and weakening trend into the southeast, this round of storms will not have an impact on the latest river trends, which are improving.

To keep an eye on those thunderstorms, here are looping regional radars for the area:
