Heavy Rain in the Appalachians and Central Gulf Coast; Heat Continues in the West; Monitoring the Tropics

Heavy to excessive rainfall over the southern Appalachians and portions of the central Gulf Coast may bring areas of flooding today. Hot temperatures are in place through today across much of the western U.S. and New England. With there being a lull in recent severe weather activity, we thought it would be a good time to offer up some refresher training on storm spotting in southern WI and how you can report to the office.  We recommend attending an in-person spotter training session to get the full training (typically held in early Spring), but this will provide you with some of the necessary basics to report to the office.  Thank you to all of you who have submitted reports to us in the past.  We look at every single one that comes in and it helps with our warning process.
