Heavy Rainfall and Severe Thunderstorm Threats for the Plains and Southeast

A frontal boundary extending from the western High Plains to the Southeast will focus additional showers and thunderstorms this weekend. Some of these storms may become severe, alongside frequent lightning, and isolated instances of flash flooding. July monthly weather report: July was a persistently hot month, while only a few daily records were challenged or tied, the month still ended with being in the top 10 warmest for all three long term observation locations in the three metros. July was also drier than typical in Chattanooga and Knoxville, while the Tri-Cities saw a wetter than typical month, with flooding observed in the Tri-Cities region and into southwestern Virginia.
