Heavy Rain From the Plains to the Northeast; Heat Wave Begins

Severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall are likely across parts of the Northeast, portions of the northern and central Plains, and the Ohio Valley. Portions of northeast Missouri and central Illinois could experience locally significant flash flooding. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue especially areas along and north of interstate 40. Localized flash flooding is possible.
Hot and muggy conditions with afternoon showers and thunderstorms will continue through Monday. The chance of rain will decrease starting Tuesday, but temperatures will rise, with highs in the 90s and heat index values near or above 100 through the week.
