Heavy Great Lakes Snow through Friday; Extreme Cold and Potential for Major Winter Storm Late Week into this Weekend

Multiple clipper systems will bring cold temperatures and enhance lake-effect snow downwind of the Great Lakes. An arctic blast will bring frigid temperatures accompanied with gusty winds that may lead to dangerous wind chills beginning in the Northern Plains Thursday before expanding to the South and East. This photo of large hail was taken by Spokane 16, Bob Lutz, in Otis Orchards on the afternoon of June 10th, 2003 after the passage of a severe thunderstorm. These ice balls ranged in size from 1 inch to 1 1/2 inches in diameter, or from quarter size to walnut size. A severe thunderstorm produces hail of at least 3/4 inch.
