Heat Wave Expands to the East Coast; Flash Flooding Likely in the Central Plains into the Midwest; Severe Thunderstorms in the Northeast

Dangerous, prolonged heat is ongoing in the Mid-South to Mid-Mississippi Valley and heat expands into the Northeast for a brief period today. Widely scattered instances of flash flooding due to heavy rains are forecast from northeast Kansas to much of Indiana. Here are some additional photos of snow rollers found near Medical Lake in eastern Washington on December 30th 2008 courtesy of Ron Trees. While these snow rollers are not as large and well defined as the Camas Prairie snow rollers, it is easier to visualize how each one initially develops with the right combination of wind and snow conditions.
