Showers and Storms in the East; Dangerously Hot and Dry in the West

Scattered showers and storms are expected across portions of the Central and Eastern U.S. through the end of the week. Meanwhile, dangerous heat will intensify across the Desert Southwest and Intermountain West. Hot, dry weather and increasing winds will allow elevated wildfire conditions to return to the northern Intermountain West, where air quality issues persist from ongoing fires. Read More >

     Science and Operations Officer 

The Science and Operations Officer (SOO) is the top research position at every field office.

The SOO's functions:

- Make sure the office personnel are trained and current on all weather, climate, forecasting, and system features 

- Responsible for all the latest science technologies and services are provided to the public, meteorologists, and Emergency Managers (EMs)

- Scheduling, recording and personnel for training and personal improvement

- Recruit new hires and new interns

- Fill in as a forecaster if needed
