Temperatures will hover at slightly above normal levels early this week, then decrease to near normal by midweek. The chances for afternoon/evening storms over Arizona high terrain will increase gradually each day. These storm chances will eventually move into lower deserts and the Phoenix metro by the middle of the week.
Thunderstorm chances will be mainly focused over the higher terrain of eastern Arizona this week, however the weather pattern will become more favorable for more widespread storms later in the week. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will become increasingly likely across the lower deserts Wednesday-Friday, including the Phoenix metro.
Even though temperatures are retreating from extreme, record breaking levels, not following heat safety guidelines, particularly during the afternoon hours can be dangerous.
