Significant Winter Storm to Affect the Pacific Coast through the Upper Midwest

A significant storm will bring high winds and heavy precipitation, including mountain snow, to portions of the western U.S. this weekend. Extremely dangerous travel is expected through passes. Confidence is increasing that this storm will then impact the central U.S. with heavy snow and strong winds to the north and severe thunderstorms with possible tornadoes and heavy rainfall to the south. Heavy snow impacted much of central Wyoming beginning Wednesday morning.  The heaviest snowfall fell across Fremont County Wednesday afternoon and evening.  The strongest winds were mostly across Sweetwater county Wednesday evening.   This is the final version for this storm event.

  More wind than snow in Rock Springs. 1 to 3 inches of snow combined with wind gusts over 50 mph across Sweetwater County.  A peak wind gust of 56 mph was clocked at the Rock Springs/Sweetwater County Airport at 513 PM Wednesday. - Click to Enlarge
