A large high pressure system will usher in cold air for this first day of March across the northern Plains, Great Lakes, Northeast and mid-Atlantic. Bitterly cold air from the Arctic region that settled into the Northern Plains in early to mid February, 2021 resulted in numerous record low temperatures being set. This is a preliminary list of new record low temperatures. Of significance is that Spearfish set an all time record low of -33. The previous all time record low was -32, last set back on Jan 4, 1950. The period of record for Spearfish goes all the way back to 1893. |
