Gusty winds are in the forecast for Saturday with many areas showing increased probabilities for wind gusts greater than 40 mph. There is also increased potential for thunderstorms to enhance wind gusts. Choppy lake conditions are expected, especially on Flathead Lake.
A cool weather pattern will return to the Northern Rockies Sunday through next Tuesday. Below normal temperatures will bring cold and raw conditions to the mountains, with the potential for high elevation travel impacts and hypothermia if unprepared.
A closed low pressure system has a 80% probability of developing over north-central Idaho and west-central Montana by early next week. This will bring widespread precipitation and much cooler temperatures to most of the Northern Rockies. There is a relatively high probability (50-60%) for valley locations receiving 0.50” of rainfall in a 48hr period Monday through Tuesday. Notable rises in area streams and creeks are expected, along with standing water in poor drainage areas.
