A National Weather Service Damage Assessment Team has surveyed the storm damage in Calhoun County. It has been determined the damage was the result of straight line winds. Localized areas may have received winds up to 65 mph.
The most concentrated damage occurred near the intersection of Greenbrier Dear Road and Birchwood Drive. Several homes were damaged on Birchwood Drive mainly due to fallen trees landing on the homes. There was approximately a one half mile radius damage area. A few trees were uprooted and many tree limbs were broken off. No injuries or fatalities were reported.
This supercell thunderstorm produced a hail swath from near Lincoln in Talladega County, through the Anniston area, then passed near Heflin in Cleburne County. The hail covered the ground in several locations and was golf ball to softball size. The supercell produced this activity around 400 pm CST.
