A tropical disturbance in the Bay of Campeche is expected to strengthen later today into a tropical cyclone. The eventual track is likely to wind up somewhere in southeast Texas late this week into the weekend. Very heavy rainfall is forecast to occur across a big portion of southeast Texas. Some of this heavy rainfall could fall across parts of North and Central Texas Saturday into Sunday. We will closely monitor this potential over the coming days. Persons with interests in southeast Texas should closely monitor the forecast for changes in track and rainfall amounts.
Rain chances will gradually shift south of I-20 where an outflow boundary will provide focus for additional development this afternoon. Farther North, rain chances will ramp up again tonight in the vicinity of a meandering frontal boundary. Severe weather is not expected.
