Storm Systems Continue to Impact the Pacific Northwest; Lake Effect Snow Continues

A second Pacific cold front will cross the Pacific Northwest Wednesday followed by another atmospheric river. Each of these features will bring additional periods of gusty winds, mountain snow, and heavy to excessive rainfall with renewed flooding. Great news for mariners on Lake Michigan!

Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant and Purdue Civil Engineering have launched a new buoy on Lake Michigan near the Winnetka/Wilmette area.

  1. Lat/Lon:  42.135  -87.655
    (or about 4 miles ENE Winnetka)
  2.  Site Elevation:  175.5 m
  3. Air Temp Height: 2.75 m above site elevation
  4. Anemometer Height: 2.75 m above site elevation
  5. Barometer Elevation: 2.75 m above mean sea level
  6. Sea Temp Depth: 1.0 m
  7. Water Depth:   14 m
  8. Owned and maintained by Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant and Purdue Civil Engineering
