Critical Fire Weather in the Southern Plains; Severe Storms in the Ohio Valley

Strong winds and low humidity will create elevated to critical fire weather conditions across the Southern Plains on Thursday. Strong to severe thunderstorms are forecast in the Ohio Valley late Thursday into Friday morning, with the strongest storms capable of producing very large hail, damaging winds, and a few tornadoes. Southwest winds remain gusty into Wednesday evening. Wind gusts of 30-35 mph will be common across the Columbia Basin, West Plains, Palouse, over the higher terrain of Northeastern WA and and into the north Idaho Panhandle. Most mountain passes will see minimal accumulation; however Stevens Pass is forecast to see 6 to 8 inches of snow, while Snoqualmie Pass is forecast to receive 3 to 4 inches of snow. Other passes are forecast to see less than 1 inch. Some of higher Cascades valleys (such as near Coles Corner, Telma and Mazama) may also see up to 2 inches of snow.
