Above Normal Temperatures, Strong Thunderstorms, Tropical Development Being Monitored

Well above normal temperatures are forecast to shift from the northern Plains through the Northeast U.S. over the long holiday weekend. A few strong to severe thunderstorm will be possible as well along with a potential for excessive rainfall. A series of strong storms will bring active weather to the Bering Sea region this weekend, including the possibility for High Winds and Blizzard Conditions.

 

Snow and wind are moving through the Kuskokwim Delta coastline this afternoon. Strong southeast winds and gusts to 35 miles per hour will continue through the evening. New snow will range from 1 to 4 inches. Visibility will drop to 1/2 mile or less.

 

Starting late Friday, a second, stronger low will move into the Bering.  This system has the potential to bring High Winds to the Aleutian Islands starting Friday evening, followed by possible Blizzard Conditions to the southwest Mainland through Saturday.

High winds will threaten the Aleutians with gusts to 80 miles-per-hour.  Winds and snow will threaten inland areas north of King Salmon to the Kuskokwim Delta on Saturday making blizzard conditions possible.
