A Fire Weather Watch is in effect for the Susitna Valley, Western Kenai Peninsula, and Western Prince William Sound areas from Friday afternoon through Friday evening, August 16. This includes Talkeetna, Kenai, Soldotna, Seward, and Whittier.

A dry cold front is expected to move south across Southcentral Alaska on Friday. Most of us should only notice an increase of the winds out of the north as the front moves through. Unfortunately the front will not help with the lack of rain the area has been experiencing.

The dry conditions along with gusty winds will make extreme fire behavior possible. Be aware of local burn bans which are in effect, even those for areas outside of the watch area, as all of Southcentral will be dry and windy. The dry and windy conditions will persist through the weekend. Consider delaying any burning until conditions improve.
