Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to form and move across the panhandles this afternoon to evening. The threat is highest in the SW panhandles where the instability is highest today. The mode of the severe weather is most likely going to be lines of thunderstorms.
Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to form in the west and move eastward across the panhandles. This means the western panhandles will see the thunderstorms in the mid to late afternoon while the southeastern panhandles will have to wait to the evening.
Increasing moisture in the southern plains will allow the storms today to produce heavy rainfall. This heavy rainfall may lead directly to flash flooding if it is intense enough or multiple rounds could add up to lead to flooding. Morning light rain and thunderstorms may presoak the ground meaning that it may take less rain than typical to cause flooding.
There is a high chance for rain showers and thunderstorms across the panhandles today. The chances are highest in the SW where the instability and dynamics are overall higher.
The active weather pattern will continue through the rest of the week and into next week. Each day will be capable of producing strong to severe thunderstorms. Currently Thursday is looking to be the most potent of these days, but this can shift so stay tuned for the latest forecast.
Increasing moisture across the southern plains for the next several days will allow for high amounts of rainfall from rain showers and thunderstorms. When added up this has the potential to be a significant rain event. This posses a multi-day flood threat for the panhandles as the ground becomes increasingly soaked.
