Pleasant but cooler weather is in store for the panhandles today. Then tonight another cold front pushes through bringing a very low chance for mixed precipitation. The passage of this front will make Wednesday both cooler and windy.

Don't let the groundhog fool you, our pattern late this week into next still highly favors above average temperatures for the Panhandles. This pattern may include one or two precipitation opportunities as well, but probabilities remain low for now.

January started right where December left off with warmer and drier conditions. However, a system that moved in late in the month helped moderate temperatures, with most of our climate sites finishing the month slightly below our normal. Despite this system's widespread snowfall, it was not enough to overcome the dry period, leaving all sites below their normal precipitation for the month. Specifically, the Dalhart site recorded only 11% of its normal monthly precipitation, while other locations received at least half of their normal amount.
