NWS Damage Survey for July 21, 2026 Tornado Event
Survey Summary:
A tornado touched down in the woods between South Street and Pixley Road in the Town of Barker then moved over the intersection of Sapbush Road and English Hill Road. Damage in this area consisted of scattered snapped and down trees equivalent to an EF-0 tornado and wind estimates around 80 mph. The tornado then crossed into Chenango county and intensified causing significantly more tree and powerline damage as it tracked over Ingraham Road, Indian Brook Road, County Route 2 and Laurel Road in the Town of Greene. Several dozen hard and softwood trees experienced snapped trunks and blowdowns along this path. One eyewitness on County Route 2 experienced the tornado damage several trees on his property, while another eyewitness on Laurel Road described the storm damage moving up the hill just north of his property. The damage in these areas was consistent with an EF-1 tornado rating and maximum wind speeds around 90 mph. The tornado maintained strength and dipped into portions of the Village of Greene, affecting wooded areas along Meadowbrook Lane, Grace Drive and Page Brook Extension. Damage became less obvious after passing over State Highway 41 to the west of Route 12. It is concluded that the tornado lifted and dissipated before reaching County Route 3A however sporadic downburst wind damage to trees and power lines occurred on the flanks of the tornado track along Route 12 to Brisben. Some tree limb damage from downburst winds away from the tornado track was also observed in the Village of Greene.

NWS Damage Survey for South Canaan Tornado Event in Wayne County PA
Survey Summary:
A brief small tornado occurred on the western edge of Wayne County in the South Canaan vicinity. A heavy shower started exhibiting loose rotation while crossing the Archbald Mountain ridge. As the shower dropped in elevation, rotation quickly tightened to spin up a short-lived EF0 tornado. So oddly enough, this storm produced a tornado before lightning. It took out several well- established apple trees in an orchard, while causing siding and soffit damage to a couple houses as well as destroying a hunter shed. Smaller branches were deposited in a convergent path across a field, and a chair was even lofted nearly a quarter of a mile. The tornado lost some intensity while tracking over and then past Lake Quinn, before falling apart shortly after Easton Turnpike.
The National Weather Service thanks Wayne County Emergency Management for their critical relaying of information in real time as this tornado event was underway, and their partnership in assisting during the survey as a StormReady County. We also greatly appreciate the accounts, videos, and pictures that were offered by affected residents which were invaluable.
