Hurricane Isaias will approach the Central Gulf Coast on Friday and is forecast to continue to move northward and impact much of Central Alabama with potential for gusty winds, isolated tornadoes and localized flooding. Continue to check back for forecast updates as the forecast track and intensity continues to be further refined.

There is a risk for scattered downed trees, power outages, and flooding for Central Alabama. Stock 2-3 days of food, water, and medications; flashlights and batteries; kids’ entertainment; charge phones and tablets. Ensure you have items that meet YOUR needs. Keep generators at least 20 feet from windows/doors to prevent fatal carbon monoxide poisoning. Do not touch or clear trees entangled with powerlines; notify your local utility or emergency services. Never cross flooded roadways.

A Tropical Storm Warning is now in effect for southern portions of Central Alabama. A Tropical Storm Watch remains in effect in for central portions of Central Alabama. A High Wind Watch will go into effect for the northern portions of Central Alabama as Hurricane Isaias approaches the area late Friday night into Saturday.

A Flood Watch will be in effect for all of Central Alabama from 7 pm Friday evening through 7 am Sunday morning. 2-4 inches of rainfall is expected across the watch area with locally higher amounts up to 5 inches will be possible.

Partly cloudy northwest, mostly cloudy southeast. Lows from the lower 60s northwest to the mid 60 southeast. East winds 3-6 mph.

Becoming mostly cloudy with showers increasing from the south through the afternoon. Highs from the mid 70s far southeast to the upper 80s northwest. East winds 6-12 mph increasing to 10-20 mph south during the afternoon.
