Increasing heat and humidity will lead to dangerously high heat index values into next week. This level of long-duration heat affects anyone without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration. For people without effective cooling, this level of heat can be deadly. Temperatures will be in the mid 90s to lower 100s. Heat indices will be as high as 110.

An Extreme Heat Warning is now in effect for all of Central Alabama through Monday, as dangerous Heat Indices ranging between 105 and 112° are forecast. The heat wave will continue into the middle of the week. Daytime highs will be in the 90s to lower 100s with heat indices up to 109. Remember to stay hydrated, reduce time outdoors if possible, & wear light-weight, light colored clothing.

There is a level 1 (out of 5) risk for severe thunderstorms with isolated damaging winds Monday afternoon & evening across far northeastern counties. Remember to have multiple ways to get alerts, have access to a sturdy shelter, and check back for updates.

Today will be partly cloudy with an isolated shower or storm. Daytime high temperatures will be very hot, in the middle 90s to the lower 100s with heat indices up to 109. Winds will be light.

Any lingering isolated showers or storms will diminish after sunset. Otherwise, tonight will be mostly clear and muggy. Overnight low temperatures will be in the middle to upper 70s. Winds will be light to calm.

Monday will be partly cloudy and very hot, with scattered afternoon showers & thunderstorms. Daytime high temperatures will be in the middle 90s to the lower 100s. Winds will be out of the west at 5 to 8 mph.
