In addition to the severe threat, a slow moving boundary will promote periods of heavy rainfall at times. A Flood Watch is in effect for much of Central Alabama from Friday morning through noon Saturday. Rainfall amounts from 2-4" are likely, with locally higher amounts of 5"+.
Strong to severe thunderstorms are forecast to develop Friday morning through Friday evening as a cold front approaches the region. There is currently a Slight Risk (Level 2/5) for severe storms across much of west-central Alabama. A Marginal Risk (Level 1/5) risk extends east towards the AL/GA state line. The environment will be supportive of damaging winds, a brief tornado, and large hail. Make sure you have multiple ways to receive warnings tomorrow! Continue to check back for future updates!
There is a Marginal risk (Level 1/5) on Saturday as convection continues along a slow moving boundary. Storms will begin to move east of the area during the afternoon hours.
Patchy dense fog this morning will give way to mostly cloudy skies today across Central Alabama. High temps warm into the upper 60s to mid 70s. Rain chances increase tonight into Friday.
Rain chances increase overnight with the greatest chances coming across our northwestern areas. We will be a bit warmer tonight with lows from the mid 50s to low 60s.
Chances for showers and thunderstorms ramp up Friday afternoon into the evening hours. A few of these storms will be strong to severe at times. High temps warm into the upper 60s to upper 70s.
