As of 10 pm, Isaias has just been updated to a hurricane with now sustained winds of 75 mph. It is located across the Southwestern Gulf and moving to the east-northeast at 9 mph. Some model uncertainties still exist regarding timing, intensity, and exact track, so refinements to the forecast will continue to be applied. Central Alabama effects will include heavy rainfall and gusty winds from Friday night into Saturday. Continue to check the latest forecasts from official sources. Start considering preparations for power outages and flooding.
There is a risk for scattered downed trees, power outages, and flooding for Central Alabama. Stock 2-3 days of food, water, and medications; flashlights and batteries; kids’ entertainment; charge phones and tablets. Ensure you have items that meet YOUR needs. Keep generators at least 20 feet from windows/doors to prevent fatal carbon monoxide poisoning. Do not touch or clear trees entangled with powerlines; notify your local utility or emergency services. Never cross flooded roadways.
