Dangerous, record-breaking heat will intensify across most of the central and eastern U.S this week. Heat indices will likely exceed 100 degrees. Severe thunderstorms are forecast across parts of the Upper Midwest into the Great Lakes, the Northeast, and the central High Plains. FEMA, in coordination with the FCC will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) on Wednesday August 7th at 1:20 PM CDT. This Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) test will supersede the routine weekly tests of the NOAA Weather and All Hazards Radio, which are normally conducted on Wednesday`s at 11 A.M. and 7 P.M. The next NOAA Weather Radio weekly test will be conducted August 14th 2019 at 11 A.M. and 7 P.M. unless severe weather is in the forecast.
