Weather Summary for Iowa
National Weather Service Des Moines IA
243 AM CDT Thu Oct 1 2020

Winds died off quickly last evening after a breezy day on Wednesday.
Skies were initially clear over much of Iowa last evening into the
early morning hours, however clouds rapidly increased from north to
south overnight. This was in response to another front passing through
the state this morning. A few sprinkles did occur with the clouds with
very little appreciable rainfall. Temperature ranged from the low 40s
to low 50s during the early morning hours with west to northwest
winds statewide at 5 to 15 mph.

The colder push of air will overspread the region today as the cold
front sweeps southward. Light showers are forecast around the Great
Lakes during the day with dry conditions elsewhere. Cool northwest
winds are expected over much of the Midwest through the day as
temperatures remain in the 50s across most of Iowa. By tonight, winds
are forecast to become light with mostly clear skies over Iowa and
surrounding states. Frost is expected across portions of northern into
western Iowa and adjacent areas overnight and Frost Advisories have
been issued for this potential. The cool conditions are forecast to
persist into Friday and the weekend with highs holding mainly in the
50s. There will be a threat of showers on Saturday across much of Iowa
as low pressure passes west and south of the state. Much warmer
conditions are expected into next week with temperatures returning
into the 70s by Tuesday with relatively dry conditions.
