Weather Summary for Iowa
National Weather Service Des Moines IA
515 AM CDT Tue May 21 2019

Skies stayed cloudy across Iowa overnight and scattered light showers
developed as well. Winds were brisk from the east at 10 to 20 mph with
some higher gusts. Temperatures were fairly uniform statewide, from
the middle 40s to lower 50s, and the brisk winds made it feel even
cooler.

The weather will be active once again today, but cool in many areas,
with strong winds and occasional showers and thunderstorms. East winds
will increase later today with sustained speeds reaching 30 mph or
more across parts of Iowa where Wind Advisories are in effect. Some of
the thunderstorms may also produce moderate to locally heavy rains
and gusty winds as well.

There will be a brief break from precipitation in most areas Wednesday
into Thursday, with a return to warmer temperatures as well, but chances
for showers and thunderstorms will be back in the forecast off and on
from Wednesday Night or Thursday through the Memorial Day weekend.
Some of the storms late Thursday into Thursday Night may produce
locally heavy rains.
