Severe Thunderstorms in the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest; Critical Fire Weather in the West; Dangerous Heat in the Central and Eastern U.S.

Severe thunderstorms are likely today across the northern Plains and into the upper Mississippi Valley. Gusty winds and dry conditions will result in widespread critical fire weather through Saturday across parts of the Four Corners region and the Great Basin. A significant and dangerous heat wave will expand from the Central U.S. into the Eastern U.S this weekend through much of next week. Read More >

April 20, 1973

Just after 6 p.m. on April 20, a F3 tornado touched down in Scotland County Missouri. The tornado started approximately 3 miles southwest of Arbela, MO and moved to the northeast towards Prospect Grove, MO. The tornado traveled to the northeast and was on the ground for about 9 miles. 

There were no reports of injuries or fatalities with this particular storm. Around seven houses were damaged on the east side of Arbela and a gas station was leveled when the tornado moved through the area. Total damage estimates from the storm were around $250,000.
