Severe Thunderstorms and Possible Flooding in the East; Extreme Heat in the West.

Scattered severe storms with wind damage, large hail, and a few tornadoes will be possible this afternoon and evening across much of the Mid Atlantic and Southeast. Heavy rain may cause instances of flash flooding from eastern Kentucky to southern New York. Out west, dangerous heat will develop through Saturday, with record-breaking temperatures expected. April 20, 1973

Just after 6 p.m. on April 20, a F3 tornado touched down in Scotland County Missouri. The tornado started approximately 3 miles southwest of Arbela, MO and moved to the northeast towards Prospect Grove, MO. The tornado traveled to the northeast and was on the ground for about 9 miles. 

There were no reports of injuries or fatalities with this particular storm. Around seven houses were damaged on the east side of Arbela and a gas station was leveled when the tornado moved through the area. Total damage estimates from the storm were around $250,000.
