Heat Wave in the Eastern US; Heavy Rain in the Ohio Valley

Dangerous, long-lasting heat is expected across portions of the Central and Southeast U.S. Showers and thunderstorms, some severe, may produce heavy rain and localized areas of flash flooding across parts of the Ohio/Tennessee Valleys into the Appalachians. The National Weather Service office in the Quad Cities has recognized Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois as StormReady at a ceremony on August 21, 2015.
 
The NWS designed StormReady to help communities, businesses, and other organizations better prepare for and mitigate the effects of extreme weather-related events. StormReady sets an industry standard for severe weather preparedness and safety.  
 

Augustana College is the first college or university in the Quad Cities metro area to receive StormReady recognition, the 12th in Illinois, and the 171st in the United States.
