Above Average Temperatures for the West and Central Plains; Lake Effect Snow Continues

Well above average temperatures will prevail across the Plains and the West Coast this week, while a cold front will bring Arctic air to the South and East Coast Thursday and Friday. A winter storm moved from the southern Plains into the Great Lakes Monday, Feb. 11 into Tuesday, Feb. 12, bringing snow, freezing rain and some sleet to the area. Significant snow accumulations of 6 to 9 inches fell across portions of northeast Iowa and far northwest Illinois. Ice accumulations from freezing rain ranged from a light glaze to over a quarter inch; especially in parts of northwest Illinois.

Strong winds between 40 and 50 mph were common across the region on the back side of this system.
