Severe Thunderstorms in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic and Dangerous Heat in the West on Friday

Severe thunderstorms will bring a threat of damaging winds, large hail, and a couple of tornadoes to portions of the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic on Friday, and heavy rain may lead to instances of flash flooding from eastern Kentucky to southern New York. Overview

Strong thunderstorms developed along and ahead of a warm front that lifted north into eastern Iowa and northern Illinois Wednesday afternoon and evening. Several funnel clouds were reported with these storms, and 3 brief tornadoes touched down in Bureau county in Illinois, with little to no damage.  Additional tornadoes developed further east in Lee and La Salle counties in northern Illinois.
