Cold Temperatures Continue in the Southeast; Snow in the Central Appalachians and Ohio Valley; Rain and Thunderstorms in the Southeast

Cold temperatures will persist across Florida and the Southeast through Tuesday, then milder conditions are expected beginning Wednesday. A frontal system is expected to bring wintry precipitation to the Central Appalachians and portions of the Mid-Atlantic Tuesday into Wednesday, meanwhile, showers and thunderstorms are expected along the Gulf Coast and Southeast. Overview

A quickly moving clipper system pushed through the Central Plains overnight on the morning of Christmas Eve, bringing the area the first snow of the young winter season. Most of the snow fell early in the morning of December 24th, with the highest amounts across northern Missouri. Snow amounts tapered off to around an inch or two south of US Highway 36, with the Kansas City Metro getting between 1 and 2 inches.

1 to 3 inches of snow fell across much of the area, with portions of northern Missouri getting over 4 inches.
