.DISCUSSION...

A line of showers and thunderstorms has entered far north Georgia
ahead of a cold front, which will advance south and east through
the forecast area through the morning and into the early
afternoon. Several storms within this line could become strong to
severe, capable of producing damaging wind gusts and brief
tornadoes. Widespread rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch or more
are expected over the course of the day, with some locally higher
amounts possible where stronger storms occur. 20 ft winds ahead
of the front will be SW at about 15 mph with gusts of 25-30 mph.
Winds will shift to NW in the wake of the front (in the morning
in north Georgia and early afternoon in central Georgia.,
remaining between 15-20 mph with gusts up 30-35 mph. Minimum RH
values will drop to between 45- 55 percent this afternoon.
Wraparound moisture on the back side of the front could also
produce light snow showers in portions of far north Georgia in
the late morning and early afternoon, though these will move
quickly and accumulation is forecast to be negligible.

Colder and drier air will quickly set up in the late afternoon
and overnight ahead of the front. Low temperatures on Tuesday
will largely be in the 20s across the area, with wind chills
furthermore in the teens in north Georgia. With dropping
dewpoints, minimum RH values are currently forecast to range from
25-30 percent, though the potential for critical fire danger
thresholds being reach will need to be monitored. Winds will
remain W at 10-15 mph with gusts of 20-25 mph throughout the day.
These continued breezy winds and clearing skies will help dry out
finer fuels, as well.
