NWS Peachtree City Tornado Count 

.Two more tornadoes were discovered from the December 22, 2011 tornado outbreak across north Georgia, an EF0 in north Fayette county and an EF1 in southeast Fayette county.  This brings the total number of tornadoes for December 22 to six, tying the 2005 record for the most tornadoes ever in December for the Peachtree City, GA forecast area.   This also brought the 2011 annual tornado total for the Peachtree City, GA to 32, the third highest annual tornado total ever for the National Weather Service Peachtree City, GA forecast area. However, it remains a few tornadoes shy of the highest totals of 2008 and 2009 with 38 and 34 tornadoes, respectively. Tornadoes occurred in 2011 in March (2), April (22), September (1), November (1), and December (6).  These tornadoes resulted in 13 deaths and 62 injuries within the Peachtree City, GA forecast area.

Unfortunately, tornadoes are not unusual in Georgia during December. Since 2000, 2011 marks the seventh December during which we have experienced tornadoes.  The six tornadoes in December 2011 ties the record for the most tornadoes observed in December for the Peachtree City, GA forecast area, namely six, previously occurring in 2005. December 2007 and 2009 each had three tornadoes.
