Overview

On Saturday, July 12, a fire-induced tornado developed within the Deer Creek wildfire near La Sal, Utah. The tornado was on the ground for approximately 12 minutes from 1:03-1:15 PM MDT and remained nearly stationary. Dwellings and outbuildings in the area sustained a mix of fire and wind damage. Many of the affected structures burned after the tornado occurred, but wind damage sustained by the remaining structures resulted in the tornado being given an EF-2 rating. Residents were evacuated prior to the tornado and no injuries were sustained by fire personnel. 

This is a preliminary event summary and may be updated as we receive more information.

Tornadoes

Catastrophic
200+ mph
ef-scale
Tornadoes that fail to impact any ratable damage indicators on the EF-Scale are rated EF-Unknown (EF-U)
