Severe Weather and Heavy Rain from the Ohio Valley to the Mid-Atlantic; Heat Persists in the South-Central U.S.

Widespread strong thunderstorms with damaging winds and locally heavy rain are expected across portions of the Ohio Valley into southern Mid-Atlantic and Carolinas. Rounds of strong thunderstorms are expected to develop across the northern and central Plains. Monsoonal moisture will stretch across the area for a second day, focusing precipitation over western Colorado. This will result in widespread light rain with locally heavy rain showers and isolated thunderstorms. Gusty outflow winds to 40 MPH and occasional lightning are expected, as well as an increased potential for mud and rock slides and localized flooding.
