Make Your Organization a Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador!

Jim Pringle, Warning Coordination Meteorologist

Each year many people in the United States are killed or suffer serious injuries from severe weather. Just recently, on September 14, at least 20 people were killed in southern Utah from flash floods. These deaths and injuries are still occurring despite many accurate and timely weather warnings issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) and promoted by our many media partners and emergency managers.

According to social scientists, although many victims of severe weather were aware of the warning, they either did not know what to do or took protective measures too late. Educating the people within your organization and the people served by your organization can go a long way in reducing the number of severe weather victims.

It only takes 10 to 15 minutes to apply, and when approved, your organization will receive the following free monthly weather safety resources from the NWS by email:

  • Text products for social media posts
  • Articles for your organization’s newsletters
  • Messages for your organization’s website

When you sign up your organization to receive the free weather safety resources, there is no obligation to use all of the resources. Rather, the NWS only asks that you help spread pertinent weather safety messages in any way that works best for your organization.

When your organization becomes a WRN Ambassador:
  • Your organization will receive recognition on the WRN Ambassador website.
  • Your organization will receive a digital high resolution WRN Ambassador logo to include on your website, newsletters, business cards, or billboards.
  • Your organization will help save lives by spreading weather safety messages.
  • If your organization would like additional information, please contact Jim Pringle at the Grand Junction NWS Forecast Office.
