July 2021 Climate Summary and Highlights

Much of the region was cooler and drier than normal in July. Below are some highlights from our three main climate sites: Wichita, WICHITA EISENHOWER AIRPORT The monthly average temperature was 81.6 degrees, which was 1.7 degrees warmer than normal. It tied for the 27th warmest August since records began in 1888, and it was the warmest since 2011. Seven days reached or exceeded 100 degrees during the month, which was above the 30-year normal of about 4 days. The warmest temperature was 103 degrees on the 12th, and the coolest was 59 degrees on the 3rd. Rainfall-wise, only 1.72 inches fell at Eisenhower Airport during the month, which was 2.58 inches drier than normal. It was the 40th driest August on record, and the 3rd driest since 2000. SALINA MUNICIPAL AIRPORT The monthly average temperature was 79.9 degrees, which was 1.0 degree cooler than normal. It tied for the 39th coolest July CHANUTE MARTIN-JOHNSON AIRPORT The monthly average temperature was 80.3 degrees, which was 0.3 degrees cooler than normal. The century mark (100 degrees) was never reached during the month, which was a few days below the 30-year normal of about two days. The warmest temperature was 98 degrees on the 29th and 31st, and the coolest was 63 degrees on the 13th. Rainfall-wise, 5.10 inches fell at the airport during the month, which was 0.68 inches wetter than normal. It was the 32nd wettest July on record, and the wettest since 2013.
