Tsunami Awareness Materials > Tsunami Warning! comic book
The ICG/PTWS (then ITSU) at its Thirteenth Session in Ensenada, Mexico (September 1991) encouraged the preparation of a book designed to inform young persons about tsunamis, the dangers which they present, and what should be done to save lives and property.
Tsunami Warning! is a children’s booklet that uses cartoon-like illustrations to describe what tsunami warning centres and emergency response agencies, and the public should do after a large earthquake occurs, and before, during, and after a tsunami hits the coast. The ITIC and national partners have customized this booklet for an Alaska tsunami which hits Hawaii, New Hebrides Trench tsunami which hits American Samoa, Chile tsunami which hits Mexico, Puerto Rico Trench tsunami which hits Puerto Rico, and a Sumatra source which hits Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Maldives, and Thailand.
The format of the document allows easy customization for the source event and national/local response. The ITIC is happy to work with anyone interested in developing customized booklets for their communities.

The ITIC has revised and updated several english-language informational brochures and made them available in an electronic format that is easy for translation and localization of graphics. The Microsoft Word files are formatted so that the text and graphics are separated into separate objects for easy manipulation, editing, and insertion or deleting of text, photos, and graphics.
