The National Weather Service Weather Forecast Office (WFO) in Lake Charles, LA, and the West Gulf River Forecast Center (WGRFC) in Fort Worth, TX, will be upgrading hydrologic services by adjusting flood stage levels on the Neches River at Evadale. The change will take effect on Wednesday, August 27 2025. This location is a daily forecast point. These upgraded hydrologic services resulted from field surveys during recent flood events and discussions with local stakeholders. The adjustments will allow for more meaningful and applicable warnings and forecasts, enhancing public safety and enabling better protective actions through the use of lower flood stages. These changes will primarily affect roads and property along the river in Northwest Orange County.

The following critical threshold levels will be changed as follows:

Neches River at Evadale (EVDT2)

The Flood Stage (Minor Flood) will change from 17 feet to 16 feet.

The National Water Prediction Service page provides current and forecast river information, warnings, gauge locations, impacts, and historical crest information for 46 points in Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana.

WFO Lake Charles provides all weather services for 22 counties and parishes in Southeast Texas, Southwest, and Central Louisiana. The WFO collects hydrometeorological data; prepares and disseminates weather forecasts, river and flood forecasts, and warnings; and issues severe weather watches and warnings to the public. The WGRFC prepares river stage forecasts for major rivers and creeks in the western Gulf drainages, extending from the Sabine River to the Rio Grande River. The river forecast center’s area of responsibility includes most of Texas, portions of New Mexico, Southern Colorado, and Western Louisiana..
