Severe Thunderstorms and Heavy Rainfall in the Southern Plains; Heat Continues in the West

Strong to severe thunderstorms may bring areas of excessive rainfall and flooding over parts of the southern Plains today through Friday. Hot to dangerously hot temperatures are forecast across portions of the Pacific Northwest and southern Great Basin today. Sparse severe weather led to another relatively quiet spring this year. We did record four tornadoes, but all were weak and short-lived. On the other side of the coin, we experienced an unusual late season snow on April 20-21 when two inches fell on parts of central Kentucky during the overnight hours.
