An approaching cold front will bring a couple rounds of showers between midday and this evening, with the second more likely to have embedded thunderstorms. Some of these storms could produce gusty winds, especially west of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Low pressure will redevelop over New England Thursday, resulting in plenty of clouds, cooler temperatures, and gusty winds. Some showers are also possible over the mountains. High pressure will build toward the area Friday, starting a warming trend.
A recent update to the Drought Monitor has maintained widespread D2 (Severe Drought) conditions to the region. Additionally, D3 (Extreme Drought) conditions are now in place along the I-64 corridor.
