Last Map Update: Tue, Apr 14, 2026 at 3:02:31 pm CDT

Unsettled weather pattern is expected over the middle portion of the country within background southwesterly flow. Periods of rain will be possible across Arkansas into this upcoming weekend.
Rain chances will be on and off this week as a series of disturbances move across the region. Highest rain chances will be over west and northwest Arkansas with lowest rain chances over east and southeast Arkansas.
Rainfall probabilities are increasing across the west and northwest portion of the state through Sunday. Probabilities remain lower across east and southeast parts of the state.
As drought conditions persist across a large part of Arkansas due to below normal rainfall, many are asking how this compares to previous droughts. Below is a timeline showing the last 25 years of data related to drought conditions across Arkansas along with a comparison of the 2012 drought vs. the ongoing drought. If you have any stories from previous droughts or want to share ongoing impacts, then feel free to comment.
An active severe weather pattern is forecast for the Southern Great Plains this week. Portions of west to northwest Arkansas could see severe weather by Tuesday and Wednesday, though forecast uncertainties remain, and confidence is on the lower side.
Rain chances will increase across the state over the next several days. While the majority of the state is expected to observe at least some precipitation, points further east and south will likely have a couple more days before appreciable rainfall arrives. Even then, low expected amounts of rainfall will only improve dry conditions slightly.
