No change to county issued burn bans since last update. Increasing Min RHs across the western 2/3rds of the state will keep most fire danger lower. Gusty winds Sunday in Northeastern Arkansas could increase wildfire danger later in the weekend.
Late on the afternoon of April 10th, 1929, an F5 tornado (the maximum on the Fujita scale of intensity) struck northern Jackson County. This is the only F5 tornado ever documented in Arkansas, and became known as the “Sneed Tornado”. 23 people were killed in Independence and Jackson Counties, with at least 59 injured.
There were at least six other tornadoes that day, primarily striking elsewhere over north central and northeast Arkansas. F4 tornadoes were reported in Stone, Izard and Cross Counties.
