As heat builds across Arkansas , it is important to remember that a closed-up vehicle can heat up quickly without AC. Beat the heat, check the backseat, and never leave people or pets unattended in a vehicle exposed to the elements.
Hot temperatures are forecast into the middle of this week as high pressure remains over the state. Temperatures are expected to reach the mid 90s to over 100 degrees with heat index values feeling much warmer.
Much of Arkansas will be under Major to even Extreme HeatRisk through the first half of the week, with high temperatures exceeding 100 degrees, heat index values of 105 to 115+ degrees, and overnight low temperatures struggling to fall below 80 degrees. Be sure to take your hazardous heat precautions, and check in on anyone you may know who might be vulnerable!
According to the Climate Prediction Center, Arkansas can expect above normal temperatures and near normal precipitation for the period between August 1 through 5.
One more day of hazardous heat across Arkansas on Tuesday. By Wednesday, a weak cold front will push into the state bringing isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms over the northern two-thirds of the state. The weak cold front will lift north of the state as a warm front Thursday into Friday with additional rain chances. The front will push through the state this weekend into early next week bringing additional rain chances to the state. Temperatures after Tuesday will hover at or near normal for afternoon high temperatures for late July into early August.
