Unsettled Weather in the West; Marine and Coastal Impacts Along the East Coast

A series of Pacific fronts will bring periodic waves of showers and thunderstorms to parts of the Great Basin and Pacific Northwest the next few days. Overview

A trough of low pressure brought the first widespread snowfall across southern Wisconsin on Sunday. By the time the snow came to an end later in the day, between 2 and 6 inches of snow had fallen. The highest amounts were across south-central Wisconsin, where Madison broke a daily snowfall record with 5.7 inches. The previous record was 5.6 set back in 2007. The lower snow amounts were near Lake Michigan where temperatures were milder, resulting in significantly more melting than elsewhere across the forecast area.

The snow caused reduced visibilities down to a mile or less at times and slippery roads, which resulted in multiple slide-offs and accidents across the area.
